Although young, Charlie feels empowered and ready to do what it takes to make an impact on the lives of LGBTIQA people. His ultimate goal is to end discrimination and systematic oppression against the LGBTIQA community, and ensure that all sexual orientations and gender identities are recognized and acknowledged appropriately.
IN 10 WORDS OR LESS, WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO BE TALKING ABOUT AT TEDxYouth@Frankston?
Gender identity, and why it is important.
WHAT ARE 3 THINGS THAT INSPIRE YOU IN YOUR EVERYDAY LIFE?
1. Laverne Cox – a wonderful transgender woman advocating for trans rights, alongside her career as an actress.
2. My mum – even in her last days, she was so determined and genuine. I aim to be like that also.
3. Harvey Milk – actively promoted LGBT rights, and was the first openly gay person to be elected to office in California. He stood up for what he believed in, until his assassination, and I admire that he refused to stand down.
WHAT EXCITES YOU ABOUT TALIKING AT TEDxYouth@Frankston?
I am very excited to be talking at TEDxYouth as I will be able to share my story and spread knowledge and awareness for gender identity, and the broad gender spectrum. I hope to be able to leave the audience with a higher understanding of the topic, and that it may positively impact the transgender people in their lives.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE TED TALK?
My favourite TED talk was delivered by Lizzie Velasques ) dubbed: the ugliest woman), because despite the adversity she has faced and the bullying, she is able to stand tall in front of people and speak about her struggles. Inspring.
